Lost !

Posted by GC on Friday, January 30, 2009, In : Training
Today Friday 30th January a pair of legs have been lost in East Sussex between Battle and Eastbourne. If you pass them please return them to their owner moi. They shouldnt put up much of a fight and definately wont be any fit state to run away.

As for proper training then there have been some good swim sets this week, strong runs (with various levels of navigation).
To cap it off I here some are off to see the second best team in England who wear claret and blue play in some backwater somewhere...

Bubbling pool

Posted by GC on Thursday, January 22, 2009, In : Training
Great to see a busy pool this morning especially when a little pace is put into the main set. Some pace changes and shorter reps combined guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs (future option of three sets will have the desired effect). I also see a best of three head to head challenge between the Royalty of kick Princess Sophia and a new emerging talent Sarah L (representing the newly formed Ironman Popular Front under the leadership of Vice Commodore Granny Grice). The three discplines being f...

By chance this week appears to be the mid way point of training for most from when they started at the begining of the winter cycle to when the racing season will commence in Spring.
It was a great morning in the Forest with the usual tranquility only broken by the heavy breathing and feet clipping across the ground. It really does possess its own spirit !

Bikes tools of the trade or merely toys

Posted by GC on Monday, January 12, 2009, In : Training
Many of us become hooked up on the commercial bandwagon of bikes and their componentry over the development of the legs and heart of the athletic animal who stands astride the machine. For the athlete who is that age group competitor or weekend enthusiast then that machine can become a status symbol or an investment in less weight to assist with the frailties of nature.
For the athlete who is on the pathway of maximising performance then surely having a groupset that effectively is costing £1...

Is Luck really Luck ?

Posted by GC on Monday, January 12, 2009, In : Education
Now theres a question that a famous golfer was once asked."Do you feel lucky ?"
To which he replied "Do you know what the harder I train the luckier I seem to become......."
So is there actually anything out there which is Luck or merely is it something that has knowingly or unknowingly been prepared for correctly.
How many of us wait for a bit of luck to come along or how many times do we hear the words "down on my/your luck". Is this merely determined from an extended period of poor practice i...

Schools and teachers

No sooner are we back at school and the teachers at schools with their unrelenting and often complete non understanding of young athletes rears its ugly head. The oblivious nature to the young athletes needs against their goals and objectives as teachers for their teams. These teachers who work in a domain of whatever is required in that term from an individual over rides any compassion or understanding to the long term development of the young athlete, who appears merely as a pawn in the pro...
