Run like an African

Posted by GC on Monday, April 27, 2009, In : Food for thought
As athletes much is said and written about how to emulate African distance running in particular the success of Kenyan and Ethiopian runners who dominate the arena. We talk about where they live and what they eat and many other issues involved around their lives.
Im sure that if over the next five to ten years the western world clubbed together the balance could be easily redressed. Firstly we invest heavily in fast food chains in every village that we know in Africa that has had World Class ...

Egg head

Posted by GC on Friday, April 24, 2009, In : Education

I have been finishing off my PHD recently on the connection between an athletes mind and mood to they type of egg they have a preference for that day. As you know there are many ways or preparing an egg.
Boiled
Fried
Scrambled
Poached
Pickled
Sunny side up
Raw are among a few of the available preparations.
Extensive research over many volunteers over a two week period has seen changes in egg choice that match to particular mood and mind swings within individuals. Stage two of the study is to look ...

Training partners, Friends and Prima Donas.......

Posted by GC on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, In : Team mates
The training partner who is a friend is much more likely to have a positive effect on you when training together as opposed to someone who you dont get on with. Generally the mutual respect of what the partnership is trying to achieve is greater than the need to push one another unnecessarily at the wrong times. Training with someone who you are not friends with does not offer a partnership as in training partners and all the substance you have is training adverseries as well as competitors. ...

The Ups and Downs of outrageous fortune

Posted by GC on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, In : Quotes

"As I look back on my career, I get a huge sense of satisfaction from all the high points – the 1500m gold medals at the Moscow and Los Angeles Olympics, especially – when hard work, self-belief, determination and sheer bloody-mindedness have seen me through. But I have equally drawn strength and insight from the moments that did not go my way. Nothing of significance or lasting merit comes without some kind of investment: be it time, energy, belief or enthusiasm. You certainly don't get ...

100-1 winner

Posted by GC on Monday, April 6, 2009, In : Food for thought
On Saturday the Grand National produced a 100-1 winner the longest odds in over 40 years since Foinaven won in the 60s. Thats probably to be fair like Aston Villa winning the League or Israel Qualifying for the World Cup Finals.
So how did they beat the odds. Good preparation, some luck, being ready for the opportunity when it arose and making the most of it. The odds suggest that not many thought it was going to happen but obviously there was belief from the parties involved. Will they ever h...

Obama logs on

Posted by GC on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, In : Education
It is  a pleasure to have the US president logging on to the website. Apparently the site was drawn to his attention by his personal aid Reggie Love on arrival in the UK. Infact initially whilst doing some surfing in Washington DC before his trip he came across the site and passed on the information to his Boss. An avid fitness fanatic he (Barack) is apparently keen to do a Triathlon this fall (autumn to me and you). So was doing some persoanl research.
