I remember watching Ben Johnmson do this 20 years ago in my hotel room in Nice on the morning of the Nice World Championships. Lane 2 is Carl Lewis and Lane 3 Linford Christie. No slouches.

Ettiquette surrounding the Removal of Drag shorts

Posted by GC on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, In : Training
The removing of drag shorts is turning into an illusionists act. Whilst this darkest art is performed by all at sometime the act itself takes many individual forms. Some of those being....
1. Quiet removal after warm up in the water on glancing at main set.
2. Visit to bathroom with them removed on return
3. Removal during the set as they are the difference between making the times and oblivion
4. Removal in the final 20secs before starting set so no one else may clock on or have opportunity to a...

Hopefully this will help in our quest to help our Jewish community feel at home. Possibly one for the
Conditioning session in the future when all else has failed eg as it appeared to have last night on the music ( I use the word loosely) front.

Week update

Posted by GC on Monday, October 27, 2008, In : Training
With the clocks going back at the weekend winter is now on its way. From the overall programme of training it has been the first week of seeing an overview of all the sessions and squads working at the sametime which has been exciting. There are many new challenges ahead with the size of the squad and its development. Already some are successfully turning out over the country with a 1,2,3,4 at the County League in the under 13 girls on Saturday showing some great depth. On the senior group si...

Addictions and vices

Posted by GC on Thursday, October 23, 2008, In : Training
For a first in the series of a look at addictions and vices the focus is on Facebook. The fountain of all knowledge suggests (thats wikipedia)....
"Facebook has met with some controversy over the past few years. It has been blocked intermittently in several countries including Syria and Iran.
It has also been banned at many places of work to increase productivity."

For many it appears as a daily must have fix. Where does that time come from ? For you is it merely a communication channel or some...

Pre

During his brief 24-year life-span, Steve Prefontaine grew from hometown hero, to record-setting college phenomenon, to internationally acclaimed track star. In a similar span of years since his death in 1975, Pre has become the stuff of enduring legend. His rare combination of talent, discipline, determination, and star-quality with a human touch made Pre the idol of those he called "his people" — the devoted fans who came to watch him run and entered into the performance with roars ...

A quote for after those tough sessions

Posted by GC on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, In : Quotes
Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say: some things in life are bad. They can really make you mad. Other things just make you swear and curse. When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble; give a whistle, and this'll help things turn out for the best. And... always look on the bright side of life...

Wikipedia the fountain of all knowledge

Posted by GC on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, In : Education
Hobo is a term that refers to a subculture of wandering homeless people,[1] particularly those who make a habit of hopping freight trains. The iconic image of a hobo is that of a downtrodden, shabbily-dressed and perhaps drunken male, one that was solidified in American culture during the Great Depression. Hobos are often depicted carrying a bindle and/or a sign asking for money/work/food

Hawaii Ironman

Posted by GC on Sunday, October 19, 2008, In : Ironman
As usual Ironman through up some interesting results. On the female side a strong favourite in Chrissie Wellington confirming the expected with a win. But it shouldnt take away from the fact that you still have to go out and deliver however strong a favourite you are and deal with whatever is thrown at you. On the Mens race a new winner interestingly still sitting on a 2.45 Marathon. Next year we will be looking at 20 years since Mark Allen and Dave Scott ran 2.40 on Hawaii on arguably a to...
